Cars & Kids

As the driver you're responsible for your passengers and this includes children. Children should always be restrained in an appropriate car seat or booster – even if the journey is only a few minutes long. And never carry a child on an adult’s lap or in their arms – they'll be vulnerable in an accident. Babies and toddlers should go in an appropriate seat. Use a booster cushion for older children so adult seat belts can be used safely.

3 Tips

  1. Always buy a new car seat and if possible get it fitted in your car by fully trained sales staff.
  2. Don't use a second-hand car seat. Without instructions, fitting can be difficult and you will have no idea if the seat has been involved in an accident.
  3. Buy your car seat before your baby is born – many hospitals won't discharge babies until you can prove you have the correct size of car seat for the baby.
