Cars & Kids
As the driver you're responsible for your passengers and this includes children. Children should always be restrained in an appropriate car seat or booster – even if the journey is only a few minutes long. And never carry a child on an adult’s lap or in their arms – they'll be vulnerable in an accident. Babies and toddlers should go in an appropriate seat. Use a booster cushion for older children so adult seat belts can be used safely.
3 Tips
- Always buy a new car seat and if possible get it fitted in your car by fully trained sales staff.
- Don't use a second-hand car seat. Without instructions, fitting can be difficult and you will have no idea if the seat has been involved in an accident.
- Buy your car seat before your baby is born – many hospitals won't discharge babies until you can prove you have the correct size of car seat for the baby.
