Wheel Changing
It's a good idea to practice this when you've time and are relaxed, so that if you need to change a wheel on a wet night in November, at least you'll know what you're doing.
- Put on the handbrake and in first gear.
- Get out your spare tyre, the vehicle jack and wheel brace.
- Remove the wheel trim. Use the wheel brace to loosen each wheel bolt/nut on the affected wheel by about half a turn.
- Put the jack head in the jacking point on the wheel. Jack up the wheel so it's an inch or a few centimetres off the ground.
- Take off the wheel bolts and take off the wheel.
- Put the spare wheel on, put the bolts on and tighten them until they’re just holding the wheel firmly.
- Lower the jack and remove it.
- Tighten one wheel bolt securely with the wheel brace and tighten the one diagonally opposite, repeat with the remaining bolts. Put back the wheel trim.
- When you’ve finished, put the damaged wheel and tools back in the car and get the flat repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
