A quality screenwash will help keep your screen clean and smear free, and in winter the de-icer it contains is a must. The quantity you need to use varies according to the season, so follow the recommendations on the container. Check the screenwash fluid once a week or before a long journey. The windscreen washer reservoir is usually in the engine compartment.

For cars with headlight washers, the headlight washers normally use fluid from the windscreen washer fluid reservoir, however on some cars a separate reservoir may be fitted. If your car has a tailgate washer system, there may be a combined windscreen/tailgate fluid reservoir, or there may be a separate tailgate washer fluid reservoir.

1. Check the level on the reservoir and if you need to top up, remove the filler cap.
2. Fill the reservoir – using a funnel can make it easier - screw the cap back on and wipe away any spillage.
3. To clear a blocked washer jet, gently poke the fine nozzle with a pin.
