Jump Leads
Got a flat battery? Get a friend or neighbour whose car battery is charged and some jump leads and hopefully you'll be on the road again soon.
- Get the cars close together making sure the batteries are near to one another. Turn everything off.
- Take one end of the red jump lead and connect it to the positive terminal on the flat battery.
- Take one end of the black lead and connect it to the negative terminal of the charged battery.
- Take the other end of the black lead and connect it to a bolt or bracket on the engine block of the car with a flat battery.
- Make sure the leads aren't in contact with moving parts on either engine.
- Start the car with the flat battery so it's running properly.
- Turn off the engine of the car that's charging yours and disconnect the jump leads in reverse order.
- The battery will take a while to charge up again so in the meantime use the electrical equipment as little as possible.
