You may have packed your suitcase but have you checked the car? Here are some basic checks to get you ready for the open road...

1. Insurance Tell your insurer if you're going abroad and check what the requirements are for the country your visiting.
2. Driving laws Find out what the laws such as speed limits are for the country you're visiting. Look on the internet to see if there are any driving habits or road etiquette you should know about.
3. Fuel Make sure you know the name of the fuel you need for your car in the language of your destination before you go! Also find out the location of your nearest petrol station so you don't run out in a remote location.
4. Paperwork Your driving licence, insurance certificate, vehicle registration document and MOT certificate should all be handy. Check whether you need an international driving permit.
