About Batteries
It's a good idea to check your battery before the cold damp winter mornings; Also you'll probably use more electrical equipment in winter, such as the heater, heated rear window, wipers and lights.
Flat Batteries
A flat battery can mean there's not enough power to even turn the starter motor. But if the headlights come on then dim and fade, there's something up with the battery. Try one of the following:
- Call your breakdown cover if your membership covers home breakdowns.
- Start the car with jump leads.
- Charge the battery. You won’t be able to start the car until the battery is charged, so if you need to use it at once either start it with jump leads or call your breakdown cover and charge the battery later.
- If you drive the car a reasonable distance, the alternator will charge up the battery for you; fewer miles will mean the same starting problems next time.
